Do you know that your heart circulates blood through your body about
1,000 times each day; that every
square inch of the human body has
about 19,000,000 skin cells; that
bones are 4 times stronger than
concrete; that in one day, a human
being sheds 10 billion skin flakes
and this amounts to approximately
two kilograms in a year; that there are about 9,000 taste buds on the
tongue; that the adult human body requires about 88 pounds of oxygen
daily; that your fingernails grow four times as fast as your toenails; and
that you produce a quart of saliva daily, 10,000 gallons in a lifetime?
Aren’t you amazing? A product of chance?
A Masterpiece
Equally amazing is the fact that you did not
determine who you are. You found yourself as you are: your height,
facial features and expressions, colour and gender. Your parents may
have desired a baby, but they did not determine who they got. You are
not merely a product of chance but were planned as an expression of
God’s dream and design. David, who is popularly known as the one
who fought Goliath, said: ‘For you (God) created my innermost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am
fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:13-14). You too are
wonderfully designed for a good purpose.
Dangers of Popular Opinion
Many people feel awkward about the
idea of God, yet their ideas are sometimes based on popular opinions
or religious misconception rather than objective consideration. We tend
to run away from God due to ‘second-hand’ information and the
failures of those who claim to be religious. Then, we not only form our
own ideas about God but also adopt survival techniques to deal with
the inevitable challenges of life. These might include issues of
frustration, anxiety, bitterness or the lack of power to overcome
shameful habits and sins we secretly struggle with. We thus forget God,
who is the true source of hope, peace and victory and rely on inadequate
self-improvement strategies, which have let us down over the years.
Created With Love
You are not only His wonderful design but also
dearly loved today. God says “Can a woman forget her nursing child,
and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely, they may
forget; yet I will not forget you. (Isaiah 49:15). We may experience a
sense of being far away from God due to our daily struggles with sins
and failures. However, in His love for us, God has paid the ultimate
price by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to pay for
our sins. God then raised Him from the dead on the third day so that we
can receive new life. “For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but
have everlasting life” (John 3:16). God is not holding your faults
against you but offers forgiveness.
Welcoming God's Design
Jesus says that “whoever comes to me I
will certainly not turn away” (John 6:37). This presents us with two
options: accept His offer of forgiveness and live in the warm embrace
of His love or continue to run away from His outstretched arms and be
separated from Him both in this life and in the life to come.
The simple prayer of commitment below gives you the noble
opportunity to accept his offer of forgiveness and love.
“Father, I thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my
sins. Forgive me my sins, accept me as your child and help me to learn
to live your way, in Jesus’ name.”
